Hello!
I’m Akiko Sato, a lute and theorbo player specialising in early music.
The lute has a gentle, intimate sound and an extraordinary range of expression. Through my performances, I hope to share the many colours and charms of this beautiful instrument.
Atelier l’akko presents concerts featuring the lute and other early instruments. Since 2020, I have also been sharing lute music and videos on YouTube.
The name l’akko comes from a playful combination of my nickname, Akko, and the Japanese characters 楽古 (lakko), meaning “music” and “old”. Reversed, the characters form 古楽 (kogaku), the Japanese word for early music. The spelling l’akko also adds a touch of French and Italian flavour.
